Can you help The Park see a return of the beautiful swifts this summer by installing a swift box at your property?

One of the most distinctive sounds of summer evenings in the Park was the shrill call of swifts as they feed above our rooftops. Wouldn’t it be great to start hearing more of them again by encouraging them to nest and breed in The Park once more.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

The Park Residents’ Association Wildlife in the Park project is looking for a limited number of residents who are willing to put up a nest box high under the eaves of their house to try to increase the nesting sites for swifts. Boxes need to be in place by mid-April, before the birds arrive.

WHAT WOULD BE INVOLVED?

NPRA would supply a specially designed nest box (for just £24). • Advice on a suitable location on the property would be provided. • If the householder is unable to install the box at the correct height, we can arrange it.

Nest boxes must: • be at least 5 metres above ground (preferably beneath overhanging eaves for protection) • face north-east (to avoid over-heating young birds)
